Kilimatinde Hospital Emergency Appeal

There has been an explosion involving the gas sterilizer machine, which is used to sterilize surgical instruments and equipment used in the operating theatre. Surgical gowns and drapes have been destroyed plus significant damage

Closes 14/06/2026

We assist the Diocese of the Rift Valley, in education, health and development. Our projects for 2024 are: 1) To update our anaesthetics machine. This will attract specialist surgeons, making more surgeries possible and surgery safer. 2) To replace mattresses for students at St John's.

Story

We request your help with emergency support to restore surgical services at Kilimatinde Hospital.

There has been an explosion involving the gas sterilizer machine, which is used to sterilize surgical instruments and equipment used in the operating theatre. Surgical gowns and drapes have been destroyed and there’s unfortunately been significant damage. Thankfully no-one was hurt.

Devastatingly this means that all surgical services are suspended temporarily until we can replace the sterilizer for the equipment (autoclave), surgical gowns, drapes and the destroyed surgical instruments. For patients requiring emergency surgery, they will need to be transferred to neighbouring hospitals. You will remember that we recently raised funds to replace the anesthetic machine, but this won’t be able to be used without a means of safely sterilizing equipment.

We are asking for people to please contribute if you can to our emergency fund to restore surgical services in Kilimatinde.
