Story
Update: Thank you to the 205 individuals, organizations, and companies that generously donated to our remote learning campaign. We have reached our goal, thanks to you! We have purchased mobile hotspots and have begun distributing them to students who previously did not have internet access at home. Next week, we'll begin our next phase of remote learning.
Our original campaign: As you know, the Bangor School Department is facing an unprecedented task - to continue to educate our students remotely during the pandemic. Recognizing that every student's home situation is different and to ensure equity, we made the decision for the first two weeks of remote learning to send work packets home with students. Teachers check in with students daily, either via email or, if there is no internet at home, through the phone.
What we've realized is that even though our efforts are equitable, the 350 students in our district without internet and devices at home are at a disadvantage compared to the students with home internet access. There are a lot of great online learning resources for students that are free and can supplement the work we've sent home.
We are exploring options to provide devices and mobile hotspots to the 350 students affected. We don't have exact cost projections yet, as we are still doing research on the type of device and service that will be cost-effective, easy for students to use, and provide adequate bandwidth for learning resources.
Please donate so that students have all the tools they need to learn remotely from home during this difficult time.
