What is Relay for Life?

Relay For Life is a 24-hour community celebration which honours all those who are affected by cancer. At Relay For Life, whole communities come together united against cancer to Celebrate life, Remember loved ones lost to the disease, and Fight Back against cancer by raising awareness about cancer prevention as well as raising funds to support the Irish Cancer Society's mission to stop cancer.

Funds raised by Relay For Life support life-saving cancer research, as well as provide support and care for cancer patients and their families in every community in Ireland.

Ennis held its first Relay for Life event on 23 June 2018 and it was an instant success.

How can you get involved?

For 2021, Relay For Life Ennis will be a virtual walking challenge to walk, run or cycle 240kms during 1st May to 19th June when the event will be closed with our Candle of Hope Ceremony. The 240kms can be done collectively as a team or individually all we ask is that you get involved, have fun and help us raise Cancer awareness to fight back.

1. Register your Team with Irish Cancer Society which is made up of between 10 - 15 people at 10 per person.

3. Upload your Km completed to your fundraising page each week for the leaderboard on Sunday

Candle of Hope

A feature of every Relay For Life is the Candle of Hope ceremony which takes place at dusk. Hundreds of candle bags that have been personalised with messages of hope and remembrance are lit during a moving ceremony. This year will be a little different, come together and light them at the same time as a symbol that we are still together as a community.

You can buy candle bags to dedicate to a loved one by:

1. Buy you bag online here and leave the message you would like on the bag. We will write this on a bag and take a picture to be included in our ceremony.

2. You can still purchase your candle bags in some local shops, see our Facebook page for the list of Ennis Shops selling candle bags, take a picture of your decorated bag and send it to relayforlifeennis@yahoo.com to be included in our candle of hope ceremony.
