Help us to continue to support people like Mandy.
Mandy was referred to us by her Job Centre. She was in debt for her energy bills from a previous property, built-up when she was sharing rented accommodation with a co-worker. They had an arrangement to split bills, but Mandys co-worker didn't stick to the deal so she was saddled with her debt as well.
During lockdown Mandy lost her job and had to move back in with her mother, who is in poor health. Her mother's income is very modest.
As well as providing Energy Awareness Training for Mandy, the Powerhouse team made an application to the energy company on her behalf to reduce the monthly repayment amounts by 75%. They are also applying to the companys hardship fund to have half the debt cleared.
Following the training Mandy found her mother also has debt on her prepayment meter, and Powerhouse are helping refer the client's mother to her energy companys support fund. Mandy is also passing on the energy saving information she has learnt to her mother.
