Reg Curtis was a veteran paratrooper and a founding member of The Parachute Regiment. He was also my uncle and my very good friend. As a boy, I watched him build a house on only one leg, while earning a living as a landscape gardener. Reg never gave in, and he never gave up. He was a rock in our family and I couldn't have wished for a better role model.

Reg's book The Memory Endures was first published in 2014 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem, where Reg was shot and lost his right leg in 1944. He donated income from his book to Support Our Paras because he wanted to support soldiers who may now be experiencing circumstances similar to his own. As Reg's family, we continue this support.

Reg volunteered to be a paratrooper in 1940 and was among the first 500 volunteers who made it through training to fight as 1st Parachute Battalion. They were torn to shreds during actions in North Africa, Sicily and Arnhem, and Reg was one of the few from the original battalion who survived the war. Remembering those he served with and friends he lost was a major part of Reg's life for more than 70 years. It is an honour to help him keep those memories alive.
