Story

As a charity Redwings is still counting the costs of the coronavirus lockdown, and now as we look ahead to the winter months, when our grazing will be more limited, we will continue to ensure that all of our rescued residents have everything they need to keep happy and healthy!

Thats why, in partnership with feed manufacturer SPILLERS, we are encouraging you to run, ride, cycle, swim or walk 10km to help raise money towards essential feed for our 1,500 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules.

So, your challenge is:

Complete 10k your way, and then donate £10 to help feed our hungry herds.

You can walk, run, cycle or ride your 10k, (or complete it any other way that is safe to do so!) and you dont even have to do it all in one go. Take the challenge at a pace that suits you - knowing our rescued residents are cheering you along!

Once you have completed your 10km donate your £10 on this JustGiving Page. Then you can share your success on social media and make sure you nominate a friend to be the next one to take on the challenge!

Wed love you to share your photos of completing your challenge with us too. Make sure you tag Redwings on social media to be featured in our Finishers Gallery.

Why The Feed Run?

The Feed Run is what we call our daily or twice-daily trip around our sites, delivering feeds to those horses who need them. Whilst lots of our horses can live happily with forage (hay and grass), we have many residents who need a top-up of feed as well. This may be due to a variety of reasons including age, health conditions or dental issues.

Through wind, rain and sometimes even snow, our horse care teams make these journeys across our sanctuary sites every day, delivering nutritious feeds to those who need them, often covering many miles several times a day!

Inspired by their dedication, you can now take on your own Feed Run challenge by completing your 10k your way! Your £10 donation - the amount it costs to buy a large bag of horse feed - will then help us provide for our hungry herds. This is particularly timely as we move towards the colder months where our grazing will be limited and more of our residents will need extra specialist feeds.

Plus, thanks to SPILLERS your kilometres will be turned into kilograms of horse food!

SPILLERS has kindly pledged to donate one kilogram of horse food for every kilometre completed in the Feed Run challenge. So, as you clock up the kilometres you are also helping us secure even more food ready for the winter months.

Once your challenge is complete, we will send you a video, taking you on a virtual feed run across our sanctuary sites in the UK. You will meet some very special residents, nominated by our amazing horse care teams, who are just some of the residents who receive these specialist feeds and will benefit from your kind donation.

We cant wait to see how you take on the challenge!
