Story
Storm Eunice raged through the Sanctuary on Friday 18 February 2022, tearing apart field shelters and flipping them into the air like cardboard, flattening fences and ripping tiles from roofs. Please help us rebuild Remus and make the necessary repairs and replacements.
We have never seen such devastation in such a short period of time, five field shelters were shattered, fences were flattened and tiles were ripped from roofs.
Our investigations are ongoing but initial inspections have resulted in identifying the following:
- 5 field shelters destroyed
- Cluster of roof tiles missing from Donkey shed
- Various tiles across and throughout the yard missing
- Skylights in roofs blown out
- Apex of roofs broken
- Lots of bits of roof broken
- Fencing smashed to ground
- Trellis down and broken
- Bird Table broken in half
- Letterbox broken
The field shelters in particular cannot be covered by insurance and, as we all know, the cost of timber has increased significantly in the past couple of years and now costs are rising generally due to inflation. We are estimating £2,500 for each field shelter to be replaced, roofing repairs in the region of £10,000, a further £10,000 for fencing and £2,000 for general smaller repairs.
As a charity we're still reeling from the pandemic and losing out on all that fundraising for such a long period of time, so for something like this to happen now... well it's beyond words!
Please help us to raise the necessary funds to rebuild and repair and create new homes for our rescue animals like Maverick (above left) and Peanut (above right) pictured trying to keep out of the wind after losing their field shelter! Tinks is the photo bomber!
