Story
Since the summer of 2020, weve made some great strides to develop JVC as an anti-racist organization, but there is always more work to do.
Led by Dr. Shana Jones, JVCs first Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, JVC took the following steps towards our JEDI goals:
-All staff, and during the 2022-23 cohort year, all JVs, have taken the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) assessment. The IDI provides a blueprint for them to discover their intercultural competence, including where there is room for growth. Its part of a years journey to increase knowledge of social and racial justice issues.
-Weve created affinity spaces for BIPOC JVs, LGBTQIA+ JVs, and White JVs to make sure JVs feel supported and have opportunities to reflect together.
-JVC recently completed its 5-year Strategic Plan, which informs our goals through 2027. One of the key points is to develop a more diverse, geographically broad JVC of the future based on a foundation of inclusion.
Sadly, Shana will be leaving JVC at the end of 2022 for new opportunities. She has laid a solid foundation for the future, and we remain committed to continuing the progress weve made.
This work is not a project with an end date.
It is ongoing work we will undertake to enable us to better support and challenge JVs as part of their Formation program. It will make clear to JVs of the future about the values of the organization they are joining. It will enable us to review our policies and practices to shape our culture to better support our staff.
Continue to stand with us as we take the next steps on this ongoing journey.
