With over 2.4 million* adults in England alone unable to read or who have difficulty reading, Northampton has thousands of residents in this position. Read Easy Northampton (REN) is a small local charity that started up in 2019. We offer one to one coaching that is free of charge. Using 5 manuals, a variety of reading books and other resources our Adult Reading Coaches commit their time for anything up to two years with their allocated Reader.

Remote coaching during lockdowns and a return to meeting safely, in person has required a doubling up of all resources: Readers and Coaches each now have their own manuals to enable sessions via phone or video call and so that resources are not shared. We also supply our reading pairs, who meet in person, with cleaning wipes, hand sanitisers and face visors so they can see each other's mouths to help with the pronunciation of sounds and words. These additional expenses have put a strain on our funds and we need your help.
