The repairs made by ASP volunteers have a significant impact on the families whose homes are repaired. The families experience dramatic improvements in their living conditions which not only impact their health and wellness, but also their quality of life. Children are no longer in danger of falling through a rotting floor, or spending a winter shivering in an uninsulated house. And in removing the mold and moisture that are common in substandard homes, we enable families to breathe safely. These things are critically important, but so are the emotional health and self-esteem of the families. As happened recently, when a child tells us now my friends can come over we understand that our repairs go beyond what we can do with hammers and nails.
