Story
In 1971, our founder Ella Rigney and a group of volunteers established Raphael House as a caring, temporary home for single mothers and their children. In its 50-year history, Raphael House has grown to support families of all types and provide family-centered services to more than 20,000 parents and children experiencing homelessness, all while emphasizing the importance of strong families and personal dignity.
In response to the growing number of families experiencing homelessness and poverty in the Bay Area, Raphael House must intensify its impact.
Raphael House will concentrate investment in high-impact services while developing new programming that will further alleviate family homelessness and poverty. We will expand our housing assistance-focused case management, expand our privately funded housing subsidy program, and further increase engagement in our post-residential services such as career building and job placement, and educational programs for children and parents.
Looking ahead to the next 50 years, we are embracing a strategic vision that will evolve our holistic model of support to actively help prevent family homelessness. With poverty prevention being a key aspect of this vision, the scope of this commitment will depend on us significantly increasing our programmatic funding, and will require us to exponentially increase our community network of support.
