Story
Thanks to the generosity of RSPB members and supporters, we have been able to replace the fencing around RSPB Rainham Marshes to protect ground-nesting birds like redshanks and lapwing which breed on these ancient grazing marshes of the Thames Estuary.
Help Protect our breeding waders
We need your help to continue to protect RSPB Rainham Marshes thriving population of breeding waders. In recent years careful land management and predator exclusion has resulted in rising numbers of these priority species, including 84 pairs of lapwing, 101 pairs of redshank and 14 pairs of avocet in 2021.
Your help will secure the continued protection of these breeding birds. We want to upgrade our Aveley Marsh predator exclusion fence which is now over a decade old and in danger of failing. This would put our significant wader populations at risk.
A new 3.7km fence will secure the future of these breeding populations and is critical to encourage good breeding wader results into the future. The fence will allow bird populations to grow and thrive.
We hope that you will consider supporting our project and give as much as you feel able. We are also approaching external funders to help support this essential work.
In the event we are unable to secure all funding required to realise this project we ensure your donations will be used to benefit work directly on site here at RSPB Rainham Marshes and details of this will be included on the linked page below.
