Disability is not inability!
We are a small charity with a big vision. Working in the village of Utange Kenya, we have completed the build of a vocational unit for 150 young people with disabilities. This will give these young people hope for a more independent future. The Rainbow Unit will offer basic education, life skills, and the opportunity to be trained in one of six trades.
We are now raising funds to finish equipping and resourcing the unit. We need tools, seeds and fertilizer for the Agriculture stream; cloth and threads for Tailoring; ingredients for Catering ; metal and flux for the Metalwork stream; wood, nails and screws for Carpentry and beads and thread for traditional Beadwork. With your help, we can really make a difference and show these young people that they are valued and can add value to their community.
The reality is that currently these young people are stigmatised and often hidden away in Africa.Post primary education in Kenya incurs a fee. The young people at the Rainbow Unit come from some of the poorest families in this bush village, so we aim to empower their parents to be able to afford this continuing education . To this end we want to expand our Business Startup Program for these parents by providing them with the equipment and mentoring they need. We already have success with many families with this program. Will you help us to make a difference by donating to give these parents a hand up not a hand out?
