Story
Sytchampton Endowed Primary School is a wonderful rural school. It has the best teachers that go above and beyond and we have a real community feel. There is only one thing that lets the school down - our classrooms for years 3, 4 ,5 and 6. Currently, pupils and staff in these years are housed in portacabins that are not only decades old but are now in such a state that even with vigilant maintenece, they are not fit for purpose. There are pictures below of what it looks like now and what we are fundraising to turn it into.
As a school community we are trying hard to fundraise for new classrooms as we receive no support whatsoever as we are a voluntary aided school. So far this academic year we have raised in excess of £6,500 at events; not bad for a school of 103 pupils but it's not enough - not by far.
We are thrown stumbling block after stumbling block in getting these replaced. The latest coming at the end of term in February, when we were informed we need to find an additional £20,000 to cover 10% of the cost of the build. Most schools are able to apply for a loan for this. Due to our VA status, we aren't allowed to do that. If we fail to raise this in time, we have to wait another year to apply again, with no guarantee of acceptance. Another year of dreadful conditions for the students and staff, assuming the portacabins are not condemned in the meantime.
The new proposed buildings will be permanent brick built structures as you can see in the photographs. What a difference this would make for everyone to be in an environment where they can fully focus on teaching and learning!
We can't stress enough that Sytchampton Endowed Primary School is a wonderful school. The teachers are dedicated, supportive and go the extra mile. Led by Head Amanda Richards, we couldn't wish for a better school. But it's being let down by bureaucracy and red tape.
Please help us save our school. Our children have had enough to cope with in the last 2 years. Let's find something to cheer about.
Mission 20K is on!
