Story
Project Discovery will see Chester Cathedral developing a key building in the heart of the city centre, maintaining the city’s existing historic fabric, bringing buildings back to life for the use of the local community and international visitors alike.
Previously used by Kings School and the Barclays Bank, this corner of the Cathedral estate is a recognisable landmark in Chester, facing the town hall and linking Abbey Gateway and the Cathedral entrance.
The positioning of this building has obscured the entrance of the Cathedral, and so many have struggled to find their way in, or simply not noticed that the entrance is there, which has hindered the work that the Cathedral has been able to do in working with the local community and drawing visitors inside.
We are therefore looking forward to using this building to create
• an inspiring new entrance, with clear wayfinding and interpretation
•collaborative offices in the heart of the city for Cathedral staff and volunteers
• modern facilities to accommodate social engagement initiatives and learning
• flexible space which can be used for commercial and missional ventures, whilst showcasing the Cathedral and city’s treasures and heritage
Join us on this exciting journey by donating to Project Discovery and you will help us to achieve these aspirations and enjoy the benefits of the enhanced offer Chester Cathedral will have.
