Story
Project Africa is a Berkshire Scouts international community project and global awareness programme. Put simply: young people supporting young people!
For the past 12 years Berkshire Scouts has been supporting and helping with projects at rural primary schools in Africa.
The next phase for the Project Africa journey is to partner with 'Joshua in Malawi' and support their work in the Blantyre area. 'Joshua' have 17 feeding stations in the area as well as supporting other community projects in local villages. Many community facilities were destroyed or badly damaged in the recent Cyclone Freddy and Berkshire Scouts will help to rebuild. Just under 100 Berkshire Scouts and leaders will be travelling to Malawi in the summer of 2024 to work alongside local builders in building a new community care centre (see main photo); refurbishing an existing centre in a nearby village; and improving latrines at both sites. The centres will be used by 'Joshua' for feeding stations, pre-schools, and general community use.
The target of £29,000 is to fund building materials as well as funding the local builders working alongside the Scouts. All funding, as far as possible, will be spent in the local area to support the local economy.
