Story
The Peddars Way Unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital will provide patients with a dignified and comfortable place to receive care during their final days.
We are raising funds to add those special finishing touches that will transform this space into a soothing sanctuary.
Named after the renowned national trail that meanders through the Norfolk and Suffolk countryside, this unit has been thoughtfully designed to create a calming and peaceful environment, away from the bustling hospital wards.
Located in a new modular building and due to open this Autumn, it will be for patients who are too ill to move from the hospital and to further add to the provision of appropriate end of life care currently available in the community and existing units outside of QEH.
Each of the rooms will be en-suite and sympathetically equipped so that family members can spend precious time with their loved ones in comfort for as long as they need to. They will be less clinical, having restful and calming lighting with specially commissioned artwork which draws upon the individual themes.
Influenced by the beauty of nature along Peddars Way, the rooms will be called Blossom, Lavender, Meadow, Oak and Willow.
Funding for the new unit has been provided by the hospital’s own QEHKL Charity with contributions from the League of Friends.
