Story
In September, Bridge of Life volunteers successfully built our first 2 peritoneal-dialysis rooms for kids living in rural Guatemala. These rooms will allow kids to receive dialysis in their homes, rather than making the long, costly commute to Guatemala City to receive hemodialysis 3x per week.
Our goal is to raise $28,000 to build the next 4 rooms for kids! Your support will put Alessandra, Linda, and others, on the path to kidney transplant!
In Guatemala, families living in remote areas have difficulties accessing health care services due to a lack of transportation to facilities, resources, and language barriers. In order to qualify for government-funded home dialysis, Alessandra is required to have a clean, private room that is only used for her treatment. The room has to meet specific requirements - a cement floor, a roof and certain furniture. In December, Bridge of Life, in partnership with FUNDAINER and Habitat for Humanity Guatemala will meet to build two rooms that will provide a safe treatment solution for the administration of home-based peritoneal-dialysis (PD) for Alessandra and Linda.
An additional two rooms will be built for recipients in early 2023.
