If Philadelphia increased its tree canopy to cover 30% of its streets, it could prevent hundreds of premature deaths each year, according to a groundbreaking scientific study.

Philadelphia currently only has 20% tree coverage, with some neighborhoods having less than 5% coverage. That means hotter temperatures, more run-off pouring pollutants into our waterways, and more lives lost.

PHS's Tree Tenders program is working to change that. Each planting season, we work with more than 60 community groups to plant and care for trees in the Philadelphia region.
