Story
We are Porthleven Town Band, a second section band, registered charity and Third Section Champions of Great Britain. While we wouldn't be where we are today without the dedication of our players and our Musical Director, there is so much more that goes into our musical progress and providing free tuition. This includes the music itself, instruments, the bills for our bandroom, valve oil and countless other expenses.
One of the highlights of the year includes playing outside of the Harbour Inn, in our home village of Porthleven, every Sunday night throughout summer. This year we managed to perform there for a consecutive 14 weeks without it being rained off! Whether you came to listen to us in person or have been a loyal Facebook follower over the last few months, you may have noticed that our PA system has been struggling. Not only is it unreliable but often it would stop working altogether and our Musical Director, Tom Bassett, would often spend the evening trying to shout to a large crowd without a microphone.
We use a PA system countless times each year to communicate and connect with you, our audience. Without this, it makes it extremely challenging to not only to tell you about the pieces we're playing, their background, our upcoming gigs and ways you can support us, but it impinges on the listening experience for those that are kind enough to have come to listen.
As a result, we are aiming to purchase this PA system to make our performances more enjoyable for everyone involved. As much as we would love to buy whatever we need as a brass band, being a registered charity means equipment like this is often unaffordable and unobtainable. This is why we have launched our newest Just Giving campaign to see if any of our fantastic supporters would like to play a part in our next purchase, particularly as we have been overwhelmed recently with the number of people asking to donate.
Being a member of the band is completely free and we provide musical tuition, instruments, a brilliant bandroom and much more without any charge to anyone who walks through our doors. This is why each donation big or small is massively appreciated and makes such a difference to us, as this is what we solely rely on to survive each year. We want to continue making our village proud, performing fantastic music and being able to share this with you all. As always, thank you for supporting us and reading about our latest campaign.
