Story

As the situation in Gaza is gravely escalating, Action For Humanity is calling for the protection of human life and impeded access of humanitarian assistance to those impacted.

I witnessed five wars on Gaza since 2008. The previous wars are nothing compared to this one. There is no safe place in Gaza. Even the ambulances were targeted. Hospitals are being targeted. About 400,000 out of 2.2million Gazans fled their homes and took to schools as a refuge. Even some schools were targeted. No electricity for 6 days. No water for most of Gazans. The telecommunication infrastructure has collapsed. My kids and I sleep in one room so if my house is targeted we die together. The shelling is about 200m away from my house. I saw bodies, injuries, horrified kids and women. Gaza is now a place of death and horror".

As the recent escalation in Gaza hits the two-month mark, we reach a new and unprecedented level of urgency and duty of care. The civilian population in Gaza have been subjected to intense bombardment, resulting in the destruction complete devastation of homes, hospitals, schools and essential infrastructure. More than 60% of Gaza’s housing units have been destroyed in the last seven weeks, according to local officials. Roads, hospitals, schools, bakeries and wheat mills have been heavily damaged or, in some cases, completely destroyed. While it has become difficult to keep count, more than 17,000 people have been killed in Gaza, most of them women and children, and more than 46,000 wounded, according to the Health Ministry.

Action For Humanity are operating inside Gaza. We are doing all we can to operate under exceptionally difficult conditions, and every piece of support that reaches families in Gaza matters. But the current level of assistance that has been able to enter into Gaza via external crossings has been a drop in the ocean compared to what is urgently required. Only a lasting ceasefire can prevent further suffering and enable agencies like ours to address the immense scope and scale of this crisis.

We are providing emergency relief where we can, but we need to not only restore but significantly scale up the delivery of vital health, education, mental health, protection, and livelihoods services. This includes vital programming to support the unique and urgent needs of women, children, people with disabilities, older people, and others disproportionately affected by the crisis.

When emergencies strike, we act and mobilise. We respond immediately to ensure the most vulnerable are protected, their basic needs are met, and lives are saved. Our work is driven by immediate response and effective delivery, but we stay long after a disaster to help restore lives. As an NGO we are guided by our drive to help others, not profit. When emergencies strike, we act to ensure to save lives and protect the vulnerable. When the emergency is over, we stay and help restore lives. We were founded in 2011 in the UK by a group of doctors whose sole focus was to provide assistance and aid to those devastated by conflict. For over a decade we have built an expertise in responding to humanitarian needs to benefit the most vulnerable people affected by conflict, disasters and extreme poverty.
