Story
Struggling civilians once more face the horror of major airstrikes, with a rapidly rising death toll and hundreds of thousands of people displaced with nowhere safe to go, worsening the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Over 32,000 Palestinians have been killed and thousands more injured and missing. This number is expected to increase rapidly as airstrikes continue. Nearly 50% of deaths are children.
The situation is extremely terrifying. I am writing these words and my house is shaking back and forth due to the intense bombing...As an adult who have lived tens of escalation in the last years, I feel terrified. I feel this time we might not be able to survive...The airstrikes are destroying everything. I can’t imagine Gaza after this ends and we survive. I can’t think of the destruction that we will see - an Islamic Relief aid worker in Gaza.
Islamic Relief is on the ground
As conditions rapidly deteriorate amid this latest escalation in hostilities, Islamic Relief remains steadfast in our determination to assist Palestinian families. Working closely with our local partners, we are distributing essential items to affected families.
Since October 2023, we have provided over £10 million worth of aid and delivered over 8 million hot meals.
We have been providing humanitarian relief in Palestine since 1997, serving as a lifeline for communities struggling with the devastating effects of occupation, blockade and recurring conflict. As Palestinian families face fresh suffering in Gaza, Islamic Relief is calling on supporters to help us provide much-needed humanitarian aid.
With your support, Islamic Relief will remain a lifeline for Palestinian families. Please give generously to our Palestine Emergency Appeal now.
How is Islamic Relief still getting aid into Gaza?
Islamic Relief has been working with local partners across Gaza and the wider Middle East region to ensure we can procure and distribute as much aid as we can.
We are working with UN agencies such as the World Food Programme, who are bringing in some food via the Kerem Shalom crossing which we then distribute. Through a number of additional trucks, we have also been able to bring in and deliver vital hygiene, medical and personal items. This included warm winter clothing, feminine hygiene products and children’s nappies.
Items such as blankets and hygiene kits have been brought in through the Rafah crossing, and we are constantly trying to get more in.
Despite the huge challenges, our team in Gaza and our local partners are delivering aid every day. So far, we’ve cooked over 8 million ready-to-eat meals for displaced families in the overcrowded shelters.
We desperately need more aid to get into Gaza, alongside a permanent ceasefire. Only an estimated 10% of the required food aid is getting in. There has been little improvement, with the amount of aid coming in remaining just a drop in the ocean compared to what is needed.
Islamic Relief partnering with the World Food Programme
Islamic Relief is now partnering with the UN World Food Programme to bring emergency food supplies into Gaza.
Currently we’re cooking hot meals daily for over 140,000 people who have fled their homes, are now living in overcrowded shelters and are in desperate need of food. So far, with WFP we’ve cooked over 6.3 million ready-to-eat meals since the start of the escalation.
However, more aid needs to urgently be allowed into Gaza, as the UN reports Gaza is likely to enter famine imminently. 1 million people in Gaza are suffering severe hunger. Children are dying from starvation and most families are now going whole days without eating.
