Story
Pace Hillsborough is committed to creating this safe space remotely during this unprecedented crisis. We are working to provide academics as well as create a virtual community for our girls with teachers, counselors and each other.
We are caring for girls like Sade, who came to Pace Hillsborough last year and needs our help now more than ever.
Sade's story
My name is Sade and I am 16 years old. Prior to enrolling at Pace I experienced the loss of my father, which lead to feelings of hopelessness and sadness. Not having the guidance of my mother or father left me feeling lost and confused. In my attempt to fill the void of my dad, I began to engage in unhealthy behaviors. I began skipping school and lost my desire to be successful in my education. I knew I needed to get out of my old school because I was getting poor grades and I started to skip almost every day. I felt so discouraged and thought there was no point in going to class.
When I came to Pace one year ago, I had all F's and was behind in all my classes. Today I have all A's and B's. My relationship with my uncle and grandparents has improved greatly. I now lean on them for support and have gained their trust.
I am so grateful for the opportunities that Pace has given me so far. I have had the opportunity to participate in so many new experiences, such as College tours, field trips and Pace day at the Capitol. I was most encouraged by a field trip that I went to the Florida Aquarium. On that trip, I listened to young women who overcame obstacles, and I was truly inspired. I walked away confident that I too can overcome any obstacles that come my way.
Since being at Pace, I have learned to listen and get better grades. My teachers and counselors have taught me to value myself, education, friends and family. I have definitely become a better person with a new outlook on life. If you ask my friends, they will say my personality is comical, outgoing, intriguing and adventurous. My dream is to become a veterinarian and lead a successful life. I plan to overcome any obstacles that would cause me to struggle like my family has in the past. Pace has between the steppingstone to my success and hope for my tomorrow.
Please help girls like Sade stay connected and keep our girls safe and strong.
