Story
Now in its 10th year, OWLS uses the game of lacrosse to support aspiring student-athletes third grade through life. This year on #GivingTuesday, the global day of giving, we will be raising crucial funds for OWLS programs, and we need your help!
By the end of the 2021-22 school year, OWLS will have provided free access to lacrosse for over 250 students through our Outreach and Youth League programs. These introductory programs partner with schools in Chicago's most underserved communities, and use the power of sport to draw parallels to other important aspects of life such as teamwork, time management, competition, and a healthy active lifestyle.
Our capstone program, OWLS Academy, provides participants with consistent academic intervention, educational enrichment experiences, and access to a college prep education. We are just beginning to see the impact of our work. OWLS Academy Scholars are now enrolling in outstanding college preparatory high schools around the city, and our earliest participants have begun entering the college ranks.
This fall, three members of our middle school Academy program; James, Kaziah, and Truth, were awarded the illustrious Daniel Murphy Scholarship to support their private high school tuition, leadership training, and access to DMSF mentors year-round. Jaylin, a senior scholar at Mount Carmel and participant since third grade (pictured below), has been accepted to three colleges already with more letters on the way!
Enrichment programs like OWLS are critical for the development of youth physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Your support for this program could well make the difference in whether a student has an opportunity to attend a college-preparatory high school, which could change a childs trajectory toward an improved quality of life.
Please consider a donation to OWLS this #GivingTuesday. A gift of any level is appreciated and will have a direct impact on our programs!
