Overlook Foundation Junior Board: Caring for Our Peers Who Are Hospitalized

Organised by Overlook Foundation

As young people, we want to reach out to our community on behalf of our peers who may be dealing with mental health issues, and ensure that their needs are met with dignity and compassion in the hospital setting.

Story

Currently under construction and slated to open later this year, the Hersh Childrens Center at Overlook will consolidate pediatric emergency and inpatient services to better coordinate care with the same clinical team.

Kids are at a particularly sensitive juncture in their receipt of emergency medical care, says Dr. Pamela Love, director of the pediatric emergency department. We want to make our patients smile and provide them with positive experiences.

Particularly challenging in this setting are cases of depression, suicidal ideation, and out-of-control behavior in children and adolescents. Our goal is to raise awareness of such mental health issues and ask for the communitys support in funding a patient room that will address the comfort and safety concerns of our peers who may be suffering.
