Story

I gained distinctions in all modules and also won a prize. Had I not received money from OUSET at that stage, I would have had to give up my studies."

We're raising money for The Open University Students Educational Trust, otherwise known as OUSET. In a nutshell, OUSET changes lives for the better helping students to complete their studies and access the brilliant benefits higher education provides.

OUSET provides vital support for Open University students who can't receive funding anywhere else to continue their studies by, supporting students with paying module fees and by assisting with costs relating to study for example travel, IT equipment or set books.

Without OUSET, Open University students in severe financial hardship would fall through the net and likely be unable to ever complete their qualification.

How OUSET is run

The Open University Students Educational Trust is a charity established by the OU Students Association. Its Board of Trustees is chaired by the immediate past president of the Students Association and is mostly made up of student trustees.

OUSET relies on donations and legacies to provide funding to support its charitable aims. One of the aims of the OU Students Shop is to support this charitable endeavour.

To mark the Association's 50th birthday, we want to raise £50,000 so that OUSET is able to support an even greater number of students to achieve their study goals.

All donations made via our Just Giving page from May 2022 to May 2023 will count towards this target, as will profits from the 50th Anniversary merchandise sold by the online OU Students Shop .

OUSET and the students it benefits are always grateful for the support received from OU students, staff and friends, and any kind donations are sincerely appreciated.

You can find out more about becoming involved with OUSET fundraising on the Students Association website or by emailing ouset@open.ac.uk .

About the charity

The Open University Students Educational Trust (OUSET) is a charity owned and operated by the OU Students Association, to support OU students who are in severe financial hardship, where the likelihood of successfully completing their study goals is threatened. One of the aims of the OU Students Shop is to support this charitable endeavour. OUSET's Board of Trustees is chaired by the immediate past president of the Students Association and is nearly entirely comprised of student trustees. The majority of funds for OUSET are raised by Students Association members. Year on year, students use their ingenuity and their expertise to come up with ever more interesting ways of raising money on behalf of those students in financial need. You can find out more about becoming involved with OUSET fundraising here on the Students Association website or by emailing ouset@open.ac.uk. However the money is raised, OUSET is always grateful for the support it receives from our OU students, staff, and friends, so any kind donations are sincerely appreciated.
