What are we asking you to do?
All you need to do is dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 that suits your skills and complete it on Sunday 26 April when the 40th London Marathon would have taken place.
This could be something as simple as pledging to run or ride 2.6 miles as your daily exercise, holding the plank for 2.6 minutes, to doing gardening for 26 minutes.
Why are we asking you to do this?
Due to COVID-19, Our Time has had to temporarily suspend all of its KidsTime Workshops, in line with the government guidance. Similarly to other charities facing the same challenge, Our Time is looking at ways in which it can support vulnerable families in the interim, using digital platforms. As this digital infrastructure has not previously existed, Our Time is having to make this shift rapidly, within the constraints of limited core staff and resources.
The lockdown and isolation from extended family, friends and other support networks pose a significant risk to children of parents with a mental illness. Living with, and caring for a parent with a mental illness under normal circumstances can have a negative impact on children and young people's mental health and well-being; the lockdown removes many of the protective factors and respite that these young people might normally have available to them, such as going to school, playing/socialising with friends, getting support from other family members, or attending the KidsTime Workshops.
We need your support to help us to continue offering these essential services remotely and ensure the families we work with, and others in a similar situation can continue to benefit from our work.
