Story
Our Angel Bears was founded in June 2017 by a small group of angel parents who wanted to create a space safe for bereaved families who have suffered from any type of baby or child loss.
The aim of the group was to be able to support others experiencing the same pain, share experiences and coping mechanisms, and supply bereaved families with keepsake bags to recognise their losses.
After 4 years of supporting families in this way, Our Angel Bears became a UK registered charity in July 2021.
In doing this, we are able to support more families through their losses and build on the work we have previously done.
Our Angel Bears are there for any family member struggling with a loss of a baby or child in any circumstance - miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss, SIDs, compassionate induction (TFMR), ectopic pregnancy, molar preganacy, recurrent miscarriage, missed miscarriage and childhood illness or accidents.
We currently hold support groups in the UK in Bournemouth and online.
These groups are held monthly and are a safe space for families to meet with others who have suffered pregnancy loss and who understand what they are going through, to be mutually supported and to make friends.
We also work alongside 20 NHS early pregnancy assessment units around the UK providing small keepsake packages.
The packs are offered to patients free of charge, and were created so that families can leave with something tangible in memory of their lost baby no matter how early in the pregnancy, as often early pregnancy loss can be overlooked but it is still a loss and we believe that every loss matters.
We have an active presence on social media, and welcome posts, comments and direct messages from those who wish to share their stories, seek advice or require support. In May 2022 we launched a forum on our website for users to engage with others in similar situations.
The team have studied grief and bereavement counselling to be able to help the many families who reach out to us for support and signpost to further support if needed.
We also have personal experience of baby loss at different stages of pregnancy, multiple losses, fertility tests, consultant led care and IVF.
We believe that all losses should be recognised and remembered, whether a recent loss or many years ago, and we aim to support in breaking the stigma of discussing baby loss.
