Story
Take on the Orwell Challenge as it returns for the 47th year. Walk or run along the beautiful Orwell estuary between 3 and 25 miles or really push yourself with a trail, half or ultra marathon all while raising money for our charity!
With your support we can help more people access our wellbeing hubs, warm spaces and affordable food schemes.
“Since the pandemic, I have really struggled to get out of my house with my mental health. After moving to Ipswich, I finally managed to go out one day and went to the Royal Oak Emmaus café with a friend. I found it a really friendly, welcoming, safe, and calm space. The staff there could not be more kind. Since then, I have built up to walking to the café on my own with my support dog, and we frequently go for a hot drink and something to eat. I feel safe going there on my own now.
One of the first times I visited, I even had a non-epileptic fit there, which is something that the thought of having on my own was stopping me from leaving my house. The staff were so kind and helped me. They even said to me to not let it stop me from going to see them.
This helped a lot. I regularly go to the café now, and because of how friendly everyone is, it has given me the confidence to pursue volunteering opportunities with Emmaus. I now help with the upcycling projects. I'm very thankful to the team for helping me get to where I'm at now.” - Emmaus Volunteers & Hub Attendee.
