UPDATE: The team successfully completed their swim on 30 June 2024 in a time of 12 hours 49 minutes. (At the moment, the swim still needs to be ratified by the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation before it can be confirmed as an official Channel Swim.)
Inspired by the team of girls who swam the English Channel on 15/16 June 2022 – the Old Roedeanians' Association received representations from some Old Roedeanians that “we” might like to do the same.
A team of 6 ORs (Caitlin, Ella, Lea, Louise, Pip and Ria), spanning 4 decades since they left Roedean, have risen to the challenge to take part in this iconic swim.
The swimmers are spread out across the country and most did not know each other before this adventure, so this is a real demonstration of self motivation and teamwork, facilitated by zoom calls.
As well as taking part in a personal challenge, the ORs are raising money for the OR Scholarship Fund and, by funding the swim themselves, this means that 100% of donations will go towards means-tested awards enabling girls to continue their education into the 6th form at Roedean.
