Story
Are you ready to take the plunge on Operation Swim?
Your challenge this June swim the length of one, or more, of the Normandy beaches in remembrance of the D-Day Landings. You can choose to swim the length of Utah at 5km, Ohama at 7km or Gold, Juno or sword at 11.5km each.
After all, Help for Heroes started with a swimming pool. Our co-founders Bryn and Emma Parry launched a fundraising appeal for a space where veterans could swim and recover in dignity. The publics response was overwhelming, and led to the creation of the Charity that continues to change veterans lives today.
By taking on this challenge you will be changing the lives of Veterans like Simon, while on tour in Afghanistan, Simon stepped on a makeshift bomb, as a result he lost both of his legs. With the support of Help for Heroes, Simon had the confidence to try swimming again.
£22 could help pay for one of our Case Managers to reach out to a veteran in need of help
£68 could pay for a veteran to have a one-hour session with one of our mental health counsellors, to help work through the difficulties that have put their life on hold.
£100 could give two veterans the opportunity to take part in sporting activities and to feel part of the community again
