Story
Update :- afyer nearly three years we leave for our challenge on 4 rh October 2022, thank you to everyone who has supported this challenge
Pandis Legacy exists to provide the school age children of Tallinding the opportunity of schooling . What started off as 30 or so nursery age children has increased now to the older children aswell .
The school , Kunta Kinteh now provides education and meals for over 300 children daily , because of this we also provide employment to 9 teachers , 2 cleaners and 1 cook . This then has a massive effect to the local economy of the area .
We have over the years , undertaken numerous fundraising events which have enabled us to provide all of this to the families of a small area in The Gambia West Africa .
Sadly due to Covid 19 , there has been no tourism this year in Gambia , this has had massive effect on the economy where there is no Government help , so where normally parents will pay some contribution for breakfast and lunch , there is little money available in the current climate to survive let alone pay towards schooling . We have had to pour so much more money into the school this year .
We ( Jackie and Emma ) have decided to carry out an epic journey from Montrose , Scotland to The Gambia ,West Africa overland , not using any flights .
Jackie will cycle from Montrose part the way down , where she will then meet Emma who lives in England ,using various modes of transport will travel over or under the English Channel and then into Europe .
Taking in as many European countries as possible until we reach Marrakech in North Africa where we will join a small overlanding group , mainly for security purposes ,to carry on our journey , through the Sahara crossing the Tropic of Cancer and into The Gambia .
