Story
Offline and Overlooked
With each passing year, more and more services and facilities are only available online. Some older people are finding completing even the most simple tasks, increasingly difficult. Where once they walked to the local Post Office or Bank to pay a bill, speak to someone for help or withdraw cash, people are finding branches closed, call centres complicated and websites as the only option.
Our aim is to ensure that older people are supported through their digital journey in a way that suits their needs. We loan computer tablets with data allowance and offer coaching to discover the world of digital.
Our Ask
With your donation we can continue to reach more people and help them achieve their digital goals, whether that be using YouTube, Video Calling relatives around the world, booking GP appointment, accessing online banking services or anything else the world wide web can offer.
Without funding, we can’t employ staff members, train volunteers, supply equipment and continue the creating more success stories, you can be the difference!
How the service helps
"I first met Justin at a drop in session in the shopping centre, I wasn't really interested in getting online but I find more things are saying See our website and Justin made it so easy. I borrowed a tablet and got stuck in. After a few weeks, I was able to video call my granddaughter even though she's living abroad! I love playing the games like crosswords and Sudoku, I think they help keep my brain active." - Evelyn
"I've always wondered what the young people found so interesting on their phones, now I have discovered my phone can do so much more than make calls and texts. With help from Age UK, I can now order my repeat prescriptions, just using my phone! I've learnt loads and can't wait to keep learning more" - John
Sign The Petition
Older people who aren't or choose not to be online are being locked out of essential services. It's discrimination - plain and simple. And it poses real risks to people's health, wellbeing, finances and ability to participate fully in our society.
If you or someone you know would like to sign the petition offline you can download a paper copy or request that we send one out. Email campaigns@ageuk.org.uk or write to Freepost Age UK campaigns (no stamp required).
