Story
Our ambulance staff and volunteers really are 'going the extra mile' to help us when we need them the most. Can you go the extra mile for them by taking on and conquering the Outrun an Ambulance challenge this year?
It's designed to suit all people and all abilities. You don't need to complete the challenge in one go and you can do it as a team with each individual covering part of the distance .You can walk, run, cycle, swim, scoot, paddle or ride anything that is self-propelled. (Zoe Larter, Head of Charity)
You can do this flexible challenge on your own, with friends, or as part of a team.
STEP 1: CHOOSE A DISTANCE.
The average mileage covered in a shift by a South Western Ambulance Service ambulance is 78 miles.
The average mileage in one County area is a shift is 864 miles.
The average mileage driven by volunteers in one of the (charity funded) dedicated Community First Responder Cars in a day is 27 miles, or 186 miles in a week.
Step 2: DECIDE HOW / WHEN & WITH WHOM you want to do your mileage.
E.g. run, walk (dog optional!), swim, cycle, etc.
Then set your time-frame, with a maximum of 3 months.
Either go it alone or recruit your team of challengers.
Step 3: PLAN YOUR FUNDRAISING. Set up your JustGiving fundraising page and email charity@swast.nhs.uk for your Fundraising Pack.
Step 4: GO FOR IT! Everyone who completes their Outrun an Ambulance challenge and raises at least £1 will receive a special Certificate of Thanks and a brilliant medal.
Funds raised from the Outrun an Ambulance challenge will be used to enhanced staff facilities and well-being support, or to fund volunteer CFR Emergency Response Cars.
