What is the Little Hearts project?
Each year over 1,000,000 babies are born worldwide with a congenital heart defect. 100,000 of them will not live to see their first birthday and thousands more die before they reach adulthood
What is a congenital heart defect?
Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) is a problem in the heart that a baby is born with. It affects 1 in 100 births around the world and can be treated with an invasive/non-invasive heart operation at birth depending on the type of heart defect. Congenital heart defects are the most common type of birth defect.
In poor underdeveloped countries, access to treatment is next to impossible for many. In these countries impediments to the treatment are the following:
1. A lack of skilled health professionals;
2. A lack of investment in cardiac sector;
3. And where there is the facility and expertise it is beyond the financial means of the poor.
The impact of this project is far reaching; aiming to leave a lasting footprint not only on the children that are treated through it, but also on the local medical staff who receive beneficial training from our experienced team, guaranteeing a future of more capable health personnel.
Why should you get involved?
This is a great opportunity to work together with other societies to build stronger bonds and relationships amongst each other. We can Create and develop a legacy that will continue to benefit others even when were not around.
Every life is created equally, every life deserves to be lived and every heart deserves to beat.
If anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. Quran 5:32.
What your society can do ?
Each University will be given a target of saving one life (which is £1500) . Here is a list of charity fundraising ideas you can implement in your campus:
Bake sales, sports tournaments, 5km park runs, sky dives, mountain climbs, head shaves and the list goes on. Now £1500 may seem like a lot of money but with the assistance of Muntada Aid and our committees it is possible.
Project launch in January: start up JustGiving pages and promote online
Fundraising campaign in February: University charity events, 5km runs, sky dives and etc
March final dinner. 500 tickets to be sold at £20 each (3 course meal provided), presentations on what weve achieved, entertainment performers, Quran recitation, charity auctions and each Society will have their very own reserved table.
One allocated representative from each society will need to be active in our meetings and provide feedback to their committee.
This is a great opportunity for us all to achieve sadaqah jaariyah.
