Rise to the challenge and help feed Norfolk's future

The 2023 Norfolk Superhero challenge is supporting Norfolk Community Foundation's Nourishing Norfolk initiative to ensure that no one in Norfolk goes hungry. Specifically, we are supporting the development of five hubs in North Norfolk.

The national cost of living crisis is greatly impacting Norfolk, which has a lower wage economy than the UK average. Norfolks predominantly rural population has been hit particularly hard, because of the rising in costs of domestic heating, car fuel, and the lack of affordable food in rural areas. These factors mean that people in Norfolk are struggling to access affordable food.

Nourishing Norfolk is helping to tackle food insecurity through helping local charities expand their offer to include food hubs. Food hubs are community spaces where people can shop for food locally on a budget. Hubs are different to food banks and provide healthy, nutritious food at low prices or for free, offering the benefit of dignity and choice for people living under increasing financial pressure to meet basic needs. Food hubs help to build people up, providing necessary food while connecting them to other helpful services.

This year's Norfolk Superhero challenge will help raise funds for five food hubs in Norfolk: Wells, Fakenham, North Walsham, Purfleet Pantry in Kings Lynn and The Feed in Norwich. These are all at various stages of development: some are just about to launch and others are more established and looking to develop the wrap-around care, such as training and signposting, that can help someone out of food insecurity.

How can I take part?

Thank you to all Superheroes who as part of their condition of entry have pledged to raise a minimum of £350 each - or £3,000 as a team for Golden ticket holder.
