Story

Known as Anthony the Great, he was a hermit, wise man and a hero of amazing fights with the devil. He is a patron saint of animals and a guardian against illnesses, particularly associated with a condition known as St Anthonys Fire, or ergotism. Credited with a number of miraculous healings, the saint inspired the order of Hospitallers of St Anthony, who dedicated themselves to care for the sick. This rare and beautiful 15th/early 16th century statue shares some attributes with the black-robed Hospitallers, including a small bell, a pig and a Tau Cross. He would be the perfect symbol for a modern-day medicinal miracle worker, or anyone with a passion for stunning Medieval sculpture.
