Story
Kidney disease affects all ages.
Heidi faces many daily challenges, frequent hospital visits and medical treatments. Heidi will need a kidney transplant in the future.
But thanks to advancements in kidney research, her future holds hope.
This is where your help can make a life-changing impact.
With your donation the Northern Ireland kidney Research Fund (NIKRF) now recently partnered with Queen's University Belfast can continue to support pioneering research to improve outcomes for children like Heidi. NIKRF is proud to fund dedicated scientists, including Professor A. J. McKnight and her team at Queen's University, Belfast, who are leading groundbreaking research in kidney disease and rare genetic conditions. Professor McKnight's work has driven forward the Northern Ireland Rare Disease Action Plan, bringing life-saving insights and new diagnostic tools to help families and young patients affected by these rare diseases. She says, "The Northern Ireland Rare Diseases Action Plan is a set of actions to improve the lives of people with rare diseases in Northern Ireland"
