NHS under pressure UPDATE: January 2022

As successful as the vaccination programme has been the New Year has begun in 2022 with our staff facing immense pressures as a result of increasing cases of the Omicron variant of the virus amongst the public and our frontline staff themselves.

The pressure and hardship faced by our staff and the physical and emotional toll are as great now, if not greater than when the pandemic started back in 2020.

They have supported patients in their final moments, they have held iPads and said goodbye on behalf of families, they have lost friends, family members and colleagues.

All this, whilst continuing to provide emergency, surgical, cancer and other time-critical care to children and adults with some of the rarest and most complex conditions in the world.

But they are facing up to this renewed challenge with inspiring levels of resilience, bravery, and professionalism. Always putting patients care first, often head of taking care of themselves.

We need your help to support the physical and emotional wellbeing of staff throughout this difficult time, as they continue to work hard to serve our communities.

Charitable funds can provide a well-deserved wellness pack for one of our extremely stretched staff members, particularly those in financial hardship. They could also help provide emotional support for a nurse at the end of a gruelling shift. They could also refurbish a staff room into a well-being space where staff can relax, refuel, and recharge as they spend some much-needed time away from clinical areas.
