Story
The Mission of the Natural History Museum (NHM) of Cal Poly Humboldt, through its collections, exhibits, and programs, is to inspire an understanding and appreciation of the dynamic natural world. By exploring the museum, we hope visitors are inspired to get out and explore other magical places in northwest California. The NHM also provides a learning laboratory for Cal Poly Humboldt students and regional K-12 students and teachers.
Your support will allow the Natural History Museum to continue to expand the exhibits and programming focused on local natural history and showcasing local research including the local redwood and marine ecosystems. The NHM has a new student-created redwood forest mural and would like to add interpretation and signage about redwoods, a couple of interactive components, and connections to current redwood research. Recently, the NHM has been able to expand the marine science exhibits due to a grant received from the California Coastal Commission. The museum is now looking for funding to build onto these new exhibits additional ways to highlight the significance of the work being done locally and the broader impacts.
The NHM has strong partnerships with programs in many majors across the Cal Poly Humboldt campus as well as our local public schools. Funding given to the museum enables increased programming to share knowledge, passion, and wonder of the natural world.
