Community Appeal for our New Home

We have recently acquired new premises to help us provide an increased number of counselling sessions to local young people. We desperately need to raise the final funds to make our new home a welcoming, safe space during a real time of need.

Story

St Albans District is facing a mental health crisis. Our local young people are struggling - we must be there for the growing numbers who need a safe place to talk about their worries.

We need to raise a final £20k to see us in through the front door of 64 London Road.

With 100 young people waiting for our help, our new home is a fundamental part of our five year strategy for growth. It will give us the space we need to be able to offer more than double the amount of counselling sessions to more young people.

If you have any questions about our appeal or would like to chat to one of the team before making a donation. Contact Rachel by email on rachel.simkin@youthtalk.org.uk she will be very happy to speak with you.

A word from our Youth Panel

Our Youth Panel volunteer their time for Youth Talk because they believe in the counselling we provide. Here's what they said when we met to discuss our move to a new home:

About our counselling service

We are a small but ambitious, growing local charity with an excellent reputation. For over 25 years, we have offered young people a dedicated service.

Young people right now are waiting for our help.

Being young and struggling with your mental health is a lonely, scary place to be. It can be hard to see a way forward. Without help, things can get even worse.

Whatever a young person is going through we take time to understand and respond. They don't need anyone's permission to talk to us, and every conversation is kept private.

To date, we have been limited by bricks and mortar. Our new home, provides us with eight therapy rooms (an increase from four). Our Youth Panel and counsellors have been actively involved in the look and feel to ensure we provide a welcoming space for young people to open up and talk about whatever is on their mind.

"I was on a downward spiral without anyone I felt I could talk to - it was starting to impact on my school and home life. Being able to talk to someone openly and confidentially has prevented continual use of unhealthy coping mechanisms. Without Youth Talk I would have found it even harder to get out of the state I was in."

We rely on our local community for donations and funding support to deliver our services without charge.

These are unprecedented times that we are all living through. Young people need Youth Talk now more than ever before.

Thank you for your support of our community appeal. Together, we are stronger.
