Story

The Ecademy project aims to provide greater access for researchers to information about the New Forest held in museums, libraries and archives. The starting point has been to enhance catalogue data and digitise collections held in the Christopher Tower Reference Library and New Forest Museum.

As part of this project, the New Forest Heritage Centre and New Forest National Park Authority are working in partnership to develop a website called New Forest Knowledge, which provides access to a wealth of information about the New Forest from a range of sources.

The New Forest Knowledge website was launched in autumn 2017 and can be accessed here. Users can browse via a map-based search element and contribute their own research and photographs. Items that can be found in the system include books, maps, manuscripts, reports, paintings, photographs, audio clips and short videos. The site is now being used by local history and archaeology groups, students and professional researchers and it will continue to be promoted widely.
