Story
Since the devastating 2015 earthquake, The Juniper Trust has worked tirelessly to rebuild and support remote mountain communities in Nepal. Through the construction of twenty new schools, the organization has provided countless children—especially those from vulnerable backgrounds—with the opportunity to access an education that was once out of reach.
However, despite these significant achievements, two major challenges persist: a lack of teacher training in key areas such as early childhood education, spoken English, and practical science; and a shortage of essential equipment and library resources in many schools.
To address these challenges, The Juniper Trust launched the Nepal Quality Schools Project in November 2021. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of education by providing comprehensive teacher training, establishing well-stocked libraries, and equipping schools with vital tools and resources.
In November 2023, the project hosted its inaugural teacher training session, led by retired UK educators Chris, Justin, and their daughter Holly. Over 30 teachers from 10 schools in the Kinja Valley participated in this session, which also included fun, interactive days for the children. Additionally, essential supplies such as notebooks, whiteboards, pens, and pencils were distributed to all 10 schools. The project also marked the opening of two central libraries at Uma Kunda and Maili Schools.
Progress in 2024: Expanding Support and Resources
Thanks to your incredible generosity, The Juniper Trust’s Nepal Quality Schools initiative has made significant strides in 2024. In May 2024, the organization delivered much-needed technology to five schools, including computers, printers, and routers to establish internet connections. Additionally, 3,000 notebooks were provided to ensure that every child had the tools they needed for success.
The project has also made great progress in infrastructure. In June and September 2024, with the help of local craftsmanship, The Juniper Trust delivered new desks and chairs for seven classrooms at Kinja School and five classrooms at Uma Kunda School. This initiative is benefiting over 200 children and is also supporting the local economy.
End-of-Year Progress: New Equipment and Expanded Reach
In December 2024, thanks to a generous donation from KE Adventure Travel, The Juniper Trust’s team of volunteers delivered computers and printers to three more remote schools. These devices will enable teachers to access vital educational resources, and the students will begin learning essential computer skills.
With these new deliveries, we’ve now provided technology to eight schools. However, there are still many more that need support. For just £500, we can equip a school with two computers, a printer, and internet access, all delivered by our dedicated volunteers.
Looking Ahead: Help Us Reach Our Goal
With your continued support, we aim to raise £10,000 in 2025 to provide even more essential resources to schools, including additional technology, further teacher training, and more library books. Every donation, no matter how large or small, makes a tangible difference in the lives of these children.
Your contributions are transforming lives through education, and together, we can continue to support these remote communities as they rebuild and thrive.
