Story
We hope to create an accessible outdoor space for those living in our community housing facility, and enhance our current support service with more ecotherapy activities for those living with mental health issues. The aim is to achieve a sustainable positive space for residents to use, tend to and benefit from.
As part of our community services at SECE Mind, we provide supervised residential housing for adults with mental health condition who are unable to cope with living independently. This comprises of eleven flats at a site called Nelsons Gate in Southend.
COVID-19 has certainly highlighted the need for gardens and green space for positive mental health and wellbeing. Nelson Gate has plenty of outdoor space but at present this is under used, unfunctional and is an uninspiring blank canvas. During Lockdown, this issue was highlighted further with tenants spending more time outside together and not having an outdoor community space.
Our current residents and housing staff will be included in the making and sustaining of the garden spaces through a gardening support group and we hope to also include the local public and volunteers in it's creation and maintenance.
London Southend Airport have given us a kind donation to help us to start this project, but we will need further funding to ensure that we can make the full regeneration a reality. Every pound you give helps us towards this goal, create the best space possible and make a difference to those living in our supported housing. Thank you!
