Join the North Colorado Medical Center Foundation this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as we raise funds for our Breast Cancer Patient Support Fund.
Through the Breast Cancer Patient Support Fund, the NCMC Foundation provides mammograms and diagnostic procedures for those who are uninsured or underinsured, as well as financial assistance for patients undergoing treatment for breast cancer. This can be used to ease the burden of everyday living expenses such as rent or mortgage payments, utilities, transportation, or food. Patients can also qualify for grant support for services such as counseling and massage therapy. In 2019, the NCMC Foundation granted more than $30,000 to over 70 patients.
Funds used from these grants can save a persons life. Weve been able to keep the lights on for our patients or keep their water running, shared Kristi Shaffer, Oncology Social Worker.
The grants help people stay on their treatment course and play a huge role in their success, she continued. Patients who are worried about their finances often dont adhere to their treatment plans by deciding not to fill a prescription or formula because they cant afford it and need to put their money toward other bills.
Kyle Holman, Director of Health Grants and Fundraising at the NCMC Foundation, added Imagine undergoing something as devastating as chemotherapy and radiation treatments, making you unable to work and support your family. Now, you are being faced with all the added stress of compounding living expenses and even the possible loss of housing all while fighting for your life.
Please consider making a donation to the NCMC Foundations Breast Cancer Patient Support Fund in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You can also take this opportunity to become a fundraiser and create your own campaign to share with family and friends, while raising funds for this important cause.
Another way you can show your support is to share this campaign on your social media to help spread the word. Don't forget to tag the NCMC Foundation!
Cancer is something that no one should have to face alone. This is your opportunity to offer support to members of our community facing breast cancer.
