Sadly since summer 2023, conflict and violence has returned to the Amhara region, where St George's School is located. Many children are displaced from their homes and families. There are shortages of food and basic supplies. There is massive insecurity.
Gondar has been in a State of Emergency since summer 2023 with over 60 people killed on it's streets. Communication networks have been mostly shut down with no wifi and little to no phone network coverage.
Inflation is at an all time high. Basic foods and supplies are averaging triple normal costs making them unaffordable for many families. The black market is rife with some products up to five times their usual costs.
Your support this Christmas will help us further help the families at St George's to have food this Christmas season.
Despite the immensely difficult environment, St. George's School has managed to remain largely open throughout. Attendance continues to be very high at 98% as the children find safety, security, 2 meals a day, and the opportunity to learn.
