Story

Event day may be over, but our Race to Respond campaign is still open until May 10th and you're very welcome to sign up for free and take part on your own time if you're interested in supporting our Myanmar Earthquake Emergency Appeal.

It’s an easy way to turn your empathy into action: how and where you complete the 10-kilometre distance is completely up to you. So plan your route, start your fitness tracker and let your loved ones know they can support you.

Get ready by setting up your JustGiving fundraising page and asking your friends, family and followers to sponsor you.

Get set by deciding a route and picking a time to cover your 10K. Then get running, walking, swimming, wheeling or moving in any way that suits you and asking family and friends to sponsor you – your support will fund our urgent work.

Additional support

If you know somebody affected by the Myanmar Earthquake, we can also offer them support. Visit RedCross.org.uk for more information.

We know that when disaster hits the headlines, it can be hard to know how to help. But together we can be there for people when the worst happens. Together, we are the world's emergency responders.

Sunday 10:00am

Well done everybody! Thank you for taking part, and helping us raise an incredible £14,000 for Race to Respond: 10K for Myanmar.

This is the first time we've run an event like this for an emergency appeal, and we're so proud and impressed with what you've all achieved together.

To close off the event, see below for a special thank you from Red Cross ambassador Ekin Su Cülcüloğlu

Sunday 9:00am

To anyone still taking part, you have the next hour to finish your Race to Respond challenge!

Keep going, any amount you raise will make a difference.

8:00pm

This liveblog is closing for today. If you've not completed your distance, don't worry! You have until 10am tomorrow to finish the 10K, however and wherever you wish.

Thank you to everyone who's taken part, donated or otherwise supported this campaign so far! Your support will make such a real difference to those affected by the earthquake in Myanmar.

7:00pm

Evening of event day and we've got over £13,000 raised!

People are sharing images of beautiful sunny days they've spent outside covering their challenge, and it's brilliant to see donors being so generous in supporting them.

Just to give some examples of what this money could do, £13,000 is enough for over 7,400 10 litre jerry cans to store safe drinking water in, or tents to provide shelter for 35 families.

Thank you everyone who's donated or taken part so far in Race to Respond!

6:00pm

We're starting to see people posting their final routes and completion times for their challenge. Join us in our Facebook Group to share your progress as well, and don't forget to upload it to your JustGiving page as well to show your supporters how you did.

If you've synched a fitness device, make sure your route isn't set to 'Only You' to have it appear automatically.

You can also manually post an update and screenshot from any fitness tracker to your page using the update box.

4:00pm

6 hours into event day, and we hope your challenge is going well! Don't forget you have until tomorrow morning to cover the full distance, so make sure you take it easy and take breaks if you need to.

However you cover your distance, you’re still contributing to a vital response supporting people in Myanmar.

The below video offers insight into how the British Red Cross operates as part of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.

Together we've already raised an incredible £12,000!

Race to Respond

In an emergency, every second counts, and so does your support.

Complete a sponsored 10k where you are, in your way, and help us get life-saving aid to people in Myanmar.

Your challenge starts from 10am on Saturday 12 April and you have 24 hours to complete it.

You’ve probably seen the devastating events in Myanmar on the news following the recent Earthquake. As you read this, local Red Cross teams are helping people who need it most. Emergencies like this turn people’s lives upside down, tear families apart, and can leave even the most resilient communities struggling to rebuild.

People need us right now, and we need you.
