Story
Allah the almighty states in the Quran, Surah al-Munafiqun:
And spend out of what We have given to you before death overtakes one of you, And he says: My Lord, would you not delay me for a short while, So that I should pay Sadaqah and become one of the righteous?
There are three key aspects I want to highlight in this verse:
Firstly, Allah the al-mighty reminds us of the importance of giving Sadaqah donating in the way of Allah by using the imperative voice. Allah says: Spend! The imperative voice constitutes a command by Allah and is not something which can be disobeyed or ignored.
Secondly, spending may not always be easy and a person may want to hold on to their wealth, thinking I have earned it, its mine. So, Allah reminds us that it is not really yours, rather it is Allah who gave you this wealth in the first place "...out of what We have given to you.
Thirdly, Allah also reminds us that if a person does not give Sadaqah, then at the time of death, he will plead for a second chance. He will ask for a delay in death so that he can give charity and become from the pious people. My honorable brothers and sisters, we should give Sadaqah before our time of death comes, otherwise it will be too late. The appointed time of death is final and does not change for anyone.
The Mighty Lord, who gave us this wealth in the first place, will grant more. In a Hadith Qudsi, Allah states: O son of Adam, spend. I will spend on you. (Sahih Muslim)
If Allah has promised you more, then you should spend in his way without fear that the wealth will decrease. Rather it will increase. The messenger of Allah states:Charity does not decrease wealth. (Sahih Muslim)
