Story
Social Project 1 – Muong School
We are rebuilding a school in Muomj-da that was destroyed by a typhoon just before the summer holidays. It needs to be repaired by September/Autumn term for the new academic year.
The school supports several of the local villages and has 350 children attending. These are extremely disadvantaged communities and are very very poor, without education these children have no future, it is their only way out. There is another alternative for young girls and this is for them to be sold at 'love markets' to Chinese men and taken away from the village. This is not acceptable. To rebuild the school and re-equip it will cost between £10,000 – £15,000, our volunteers are on hand to help the local villagers in preparing to clear the site for local professional builders to move in and replace the roof, re-tile etc.
We had hoped to start the work and complete it in August, to be ready for the new academic year starting in September but this didn't prove possible. We now have students from 20 colleges across the UK fundraising to get the work done this Autumn so the school can re-open in January.
The funds raised will effect repairs to the school, furnish with tables, chairs, screens etc and go towards a scholarship fund so young girls can onto University.
Our volunteers will be climbing nearby Dragon Mountain as a sponsored fundraiser please please donate what you can to help them get this work done for the benefit of all. We will also be starting a fund to sponsor girls in particular to go to University. University fees cost £1000 per year, which is absolutely and totally beyond their reach but with your help we could sponsor girls and change their lives, and that of their communities.
20% of all funds raised will go towards Tree Planting Programmes. For every £1000 raised we will provide the volunteers and their local schools 20 English tree saplings to be planted under our Art & Nature Programme in Spring 2025. For every tree planted in the UK we will fund 10 trees to be planted around the world (carbon offset certificates available on request). This will mean for every £1000 raised in Vietnam 200 trees will be planted, the priority here will be fruit trees for food security purposes.
