Story
As we launch this fundraising campaign, a team from JFH UK are in Uganda at the health centre. They have just seen 250 women visit the health centre during the free women's health medical camp, many pregnant and wanting to access antenatal care. There is such a need for affordable, high-quality care. The maternal mortality rate for Uganda as a whole is 336 per 100,000 live births, compared to less than 12 per 100,000 in the UK. Lwengo District has an even higher rate of around 500 per 100,000 live births. The team in Uganda are trying to change these awful statistics.
The current facilities in the District are not fit for purpose, and we are now focussing the new health centre on supporting pregnant women. For these effective services to be affordable to everyone, the current price for full antenatal care and normal delivery is £54 or 245,000 Ugandan Shillings. Unfortunately, this is also not affordable for many of the local people, and therefore, we want to offer this at 20% of the price for the next 150 births (or longer if possible). This would be the full antenatal service and delivery for £11 (50,000 shillings). From conversations at the medical camp, this would be affordable for the vast majority of people.
In order to do this, we are looking for people to sponsor the 150 births. That is £39 per birth. At the medical camp, 13 mothers expressed an interest in the reduced price.
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page. Please do sponsor one or more births if you can. Also, we would love to keep you informed about the progress of this, so please tick the box for receiving further updates from us. We won't bombard you with lots of emails.
